GuideAn All-Inclusive Holiday on the Romanian Coast — Which Resorts and What to Know
The idea of all-inclusive sounds like a carefree holiday: you pay once, and after that you never reach for your wallet again for meals and, sometimes, not even for drinks. On the Romanian coast, the formula has gained ground in recent years, especially in the big, modern hotels. But "all-inclusive" means different things from one hotel to the next, so it's worth knowing exactly what you're buying before you book.
What all-inclusive actually means here
Unlike the exotic resorts where everything is unlimited, on our coast the packages vary a lot:
- Classic all-inclusive — breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet-style, plus snacks and drinks during set hours.
- "Light" all-inclusive — meals included, but drinks limited or only the non-alcoholic ones.
- Ultra all-inclusive — rare, in premium hotels, with branded drinks and extra services.
Always ask what's included and during which hours the drinks and snacks are served. The difference between packages can run to hundreds of lei a day.
Where to find all-inclusive on the coast
- Mamaia and Mamaia Nord — the richest choice of modern hotels, many 4- and 5-star, with pools and direct beach access.
- Olimp, Neptun and Jupiter — the garden resorts of the south, with renovated hotels, ideal for families.
- Eforie Nord — a few good options, also close to Lake Techirghiol for treatments.
- Venus and Saturn — more affordable options near Mangalia.
Who it's worth it for
It makes sense if: you're travelling with your family and children (predictable meals simplify the day); you want a fixed budget, with no surprises; you prefer to stay in the resort more, by the pool and the beach, rather than explore.
It's not really worth it if you're the type who wants to discover the local terraces, eat fresh fish in 2 Mai or roam Constanța and the Histria Fortress (corbu" class="lo-autolink">Cetatea Histria). In that case, you're paying for meals you won't eat.
What to watch out for
- Serving hours — some hotels close the buffet early.
- Branded drinks can carry an extra charge even at an "all-inclusive".
- Beach included — confirm whether the loungers are in the price.
- Recent reviews tell you more than the photos.
As a rough guide, what it costs
At the height of the season, a quality all-inclusive package in Mamaia starts, roughly, at around 400–600 lei per person per night, rising in the 5-star hotels. In the off-season and in the southern resorts, prices drop noticeably.
The final tip: book early for the best rates and compare carefully what each package includes. A well-chosen all-inclusive gives you exactly what it promises — a holiday whose only worry is what time you go into the water.
